Antonios, monachos and hegoumenos of the Monastery of the Taxiarches, 2nd half of 10th century. Seal (Lead, 25 mm, 7.73 g, 12 h). +KЄ ROHΘЄI TⲰ CⲰ CⲰ Δ૪Λ, ("Lord, help your servant") Large patriarchal cross on steps, with floral ornaments springing from the base and X's at the intersections; all within pearled border. Rev. +AN[T]ON/HⲰ M[O]NAX, / S IΓOVMЄN / MON [T]OV T/AΞIAPX, in five lines; all within pearled border. Unpublished in the standard references. Overstruck on another seal and cracked along the channel on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

Antonios was a monk and abbot of a monastery dedicated to one of the archangels Michael or Gabriel (or both), who were known as "taxiarchs", commanders of heavenly hosts
